The term "woodland" is usually used for the US m/81 Woodland pattern introduced in 1981, replacing the ERDL pattern.

The Woodland pattern has become extremely widespread and is used worldwide. Different versions have been made - and eg. Chad and Spain has made a desert version of the pattern.

Other countries (eg. Singapore) has made patterns where the shapes are slightly different from the US ERDL and m/81 Woodland patterns
