The People's Democratic Republic of Yemen (الجنوب العربي-جمهورية اليَمَنْ الديمُقراطية الشَعْبِيّة), also known as the Democratic Republic of Yemen or South Yemen, was a socialist republic from 1967 until 1990 in the southern and eastern provinces of what is now the Republic of Yemen. The PDRY received military assistance from the Soviet Union and other countries of the Warsaw Pact, as well as China.
