Serbia was part of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia and later "Serbia and Montenegro" until 1996. Despite being a part of Yugoslavia, Serbian police units did use some patterns that what not used by the other member states of Yugoslavia.

Serbian Military Patterns

  • M89 oak leaf pattern. In general use by the Serbian forces.

Serbian Special Units

  • JSO (Jedinica za specijalne operacije - "Special Operations Unit") was an elite special unit of the Serbian Service of State Security. It was formed in 1996 when paramilitary units (like "Arkan's Tigers") was merged into a unit under the Serbian Security Service. It was disbanded in 2003 when the Serbian Prime Minister - Zoran Đinđić - was assassinated and some members of this unit was involved.
  • JSO urban pattern. Probably made in Hungary

  • Žandarmerija ("Gendarmery") was formed in 2001. The JSO and PJP (Special Police Unit) was later attached to the Gendarmery. It consists of 4 battalion sized units - in Belgrade, Nis, Novi Sad and Kraljevo. In 2010 they acquired Tru-Spec ACU uniforms

  • Grey tiger. Used by the MUP (Ministarstvo Unutrašnjih Poslova - Ministry of Internal Affairs)

Paramilitary patterns

  • Greek lizard used by Srpska Dobroljacka Garda ("Serb Volunteer Guard" - also known as Arkan's Tigers) - led by Arkan (Zeljko Raznatovic). It was founded in 1990 and fought in the wars in Croatia and Bosnia. Article on Wikipedia
