The m81 Woodland pattern was introduced in 1981, replacing the ERDL pattern (and plain green uniforms - the most used at that time). The m81 Woodland pattern was introduced in all branches of the US military - US Army, US Navy (including USMC), and US Air Force.

The Woodland is now being replaced in the US military by different patterns in each branch.
The m81 Woodland is a 1.6 times enlargement of the ERDL pattern. The former repeats itself every 62 cms vertically, the latter every 38 cms.
